Counselling

Is counselling for you?

Everyone has periods in their lives when they feel anxious, distressed, unsettled or unable to cope. Perhaps you feel isolated or that life no longer has meaning. Or perhaps your levels of anxiety and distress have become overwhelming. These feelings might originate in something that has happened recently - a problematic relationship, difficulties in managing the demands of work, the impact of the pandemic, or the aftermath of a significant life event.  Perhaps there is a life-long issue you know you want to change or you feel something that happened in your past is still affecting you.   Maybe you simply have a deep desire to understand yourself better and make sense of your personal history.

My therapeutic approach begins with creating a confidential, non-judgmental, trusting place in which you can talk about your life and any emotions that may be confusing, painful or uncomfortable.  I work in an empathic way to help you explore who you are, understand yourself better and gain insight into perhaps unresolved issues or conflicts which may be affecting you negatively.

How do I start?

Making the decision to embark on a period of counselling is a really positive first step in confronting and dealing with the difficulties you are facing.  It is very important that you find the right counsellor. It is the relationship between you and your counsellor, more than the method they use, that will be the most important factor in determining whether counselling will work for you.

To help you make the right choice, I offer a free 15- minute phone call during which I can get to know a bit about your reasons for seeking counselling and you can ask me questions.  We can discuss what it is you want from the sessions to see if you feel able to work with me and I will have the opportunity to think about whether my approach is suited to you.

I work with clients experiencing a wide range of difficulties including:

  • Anxiety and stress including work-related stress

  • Depression or low mood

  • Personal or family relationship difficulties including separation or divorce

  • Domestic abuse including emotional abuse and coercive and controlling behaviour

  • Problems arising from loss or trauma

  • Low self-esteem, self-doubt and lack of confidence

  • Grief and bereavement

I am currently offering face-to-face sessions from my Tunbridge Wells practice following the BACP Covid-safe guidelines.  Online and telephone sessions are also available if this feels more appropriate.

Sessions cost £60 and last for 50 minutes.
