Separation & Divorce Coaching
Divorce is not only an emotional minefield, it also presents legal and practical challenges when you may be least able to manage them. You may need to imagine your future at a time when it is difficult to think further than tomorrow. There will be questions to answer and decisions to be made. As a former barrister I am uniquely placed to help you understand and prepare for the legal and practical processes involved.
I cannot give you legal advice nor will I tell you what to do. What I can do is help you understand the legal framework to enable you to know your options and use this to work out what you want for yourself and your family. When lawyers are involved you may be tempted to try to use them for practical and emotional support but that is not their remit. My sessions will ensure that you are well prepared and can get the best from your legal team and I am happy to work with your solicitor when appropriate.
Approaching separation or divorce: what do I need to know?
This is for people who want to understand more about what is ahead of them. You may not yet be sure you want to divorce or separate and wish to understand the implications so you can make an informed decision. Topics addressed include the practical aspects of what would be involved such as: who would move out; what would happen to the family home; how would you manage financially; the needs of any children and how divorce may impact them.
I also provide information on the legal aspects of separating or bringing divorce or dissolution proceedings and offer an overview of the process, ensuring you have a clear understanding of your options.
During the separation or divorce process: what do I need to do?
I help you identify and understand your options including which part of the process can be done without involving the courts and which cannot.
I assist you with matters such as understanding your finances, gathering information required to complete legal forms and instructing solicitors or others such as mediators.
I can support you in thinking about your future needs and those of any children. With clarity, you are better prepared for whatever lies ahead.
Beginning your new chapter
Once the legalities of a divorce are complete, practical questions may remain as you look towards your new and changed circumstances. I will provide you with support and the knowledge you need to resolve issues such as co-parenting, late or non-payment of maintenance or non-compliance with court orders.
